Thanks M's

I have to send a big thank you to the Mariner front office for shipping pitchers Doug Fister and David Pauley to Detroit.   Fister has a 3.33 ERA and Pauley's is 2.15!    From the last post, you saw my sentiments about the lack of scoring behind Mariner pitchers.    Fister ranked dead last in all of major league baseball for run support, with the Mariners scoring just 3.02 runs per game and has received just ten runs of support in his last ten starts.  I bet he grinned from ear to ear when he heard he was headed to the division leading Motor City Kittys.

Pauley will help tighten up the Tiger's bullpen with his low ERA and opposing batters hitting just .200!

I am a happy camper with this deal.

But, will the Mariners ever get any better?

I Wouldn't Wanna Be....

A Mariner Pitcher
3rd best in the American League with a 3.44 team ERA, these guys are pitching their guts out.   On the other hand, hitting, dead last in the AL with a team batting average of only .224.    I understand the pitchers are planning on suing the hitters for lack of support.   15 losses in a row?

By the way Seattle, did you notice a guy you released is 4th in the AL with a .326 average?  Casey Kotchman is tearing it up with Tampa Bay, maybe somebody coached him a bit.

Compare that to the guy you owe $17 million over the next two years who is htting .182, Chone Figgins - nice move Mariner management.

Do you think these guys hope that
maybe next summer will be nice and quiet?

The 5 W's

Who?
Ichiro Suzuki
10 time all-star, 10 time gold glove winner, lifetime .300 hitter, and surely to be the first Japanese born MLB player to be inducted into Cooperstown.   What else could cap this career?  The ultimate, a World Series ring, but that's just not gonna happen with the Mariners.   Ichiro has been a class act his entire career with the Mariners, playing with some real dogs of teams.    Isn't it about time the Mariners showed some class and traded him to a contender?

What?
Minor League Baseball

Minor league baseball is alive and well in Eugene.   The Emeralds are a damn good team, having just set the NW league record for consecutive wins at 14.  A follower of the Em's, and you say it's about time.   Agreed.   Special thanks to Verizon for buying up all the tickets at PK Park for the game on the 5th and giving them away for, are you ready, FREE!   I got seats 11 rows up from the Emerald's dugout for the record setting game.   Makes me want to re-think my cell carrier next time my contract is up - are you listening AT&T?

When?
Finish already...

Are they ever going to finish with the Willie Lyles crud?  The only ones not tired of this are the sports writers.   Settle it one way or another!
Another when - when are we going to have a trouble-free off-season?

Where?
Florida!

10 years of frequent flyer miles, tax returns, a couple of bucks in savings and we are off to Orlando in August to visit
Harry Potter

and Mickey!

Why?
Huh, what was the question?  I'll have to get back to you on that....

Bar Bee Q

Flipping the channels I found a show on PBS called Barbeque U.   A couple of months ago I bought a big new fancy schmancy BBQ  (a great deal - $148 for a 4 burner stainless beauty) and have been on the look out for tips, so I tuned in.   The lead professor is not who I wanted telling me about BBQ, way too uppity.   Heck, his back yard BBQ was twice the size of our kitchen.   I want a redneck with a hillbilly accent named Bubba telling me how to BBQ.
Those are the guys who know all the tricks I can use.  I don't want somebody who drinks a glass of carbernet (yep, he was swirling it around while he cooked) with their ribs.   He could have saved face if his drink had been Ripple or Boones Farm, or better yet a PBR, but telling me about his hand selected wine was too much.   Where is the channel changer......

And by the way, Happy 4th everybody!
Get your barbeque on!
A couple of hours after I posted the original blog  above, I was flipping the channels again - and what did I find?   Barbeque U, again.   This time they were grilling - are you ready for this - tofu!!!  Are you serious?  It better have mooed, oinked, or clucked to go on my grill.
